ATRG Internal Client brief

The brief that I chose to use for this client brief was: Interactive Media Brief 3- What we have already done.

OBJECTIVES for this client project::

 To produce a slick, stylish 4-5 page promotional website with the express aim of
documenting the work of the Advanced Textiles Research Group (ATRG).
The market for innovative products in the medical, fashion, artistic sectors are great.
This promotional website should describe the success already achieved by the group.

The research core of the ATRG is the full integration of electronics into textiles.
Whilst today's electronic textiles are usually made by stitching components onto
existing garments, the ATRG are currently integrating electronics into the core of
yarns to produce robust, fully flexible, machine-washable clothing.

The facebook group is http://www.facebook.com/ntuadvancedtextiles
The twitter name is @advancedtextile

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THE WEBSITE?
This brief is to create a 4-5 page promotional website that should document existing
achievements of the group. This might be done through examining existing products
that have come to market as a result of the research conducted by the group or
through examining the technical breakthroughs achieved through the research of the
group. It should discuss the group’s conceptual framework, highlight the key
participants of the group; the products come to market and any technical
breakthroughs already achieved. It should create a sense of anticipation of the future
of this research.

Potential applications for the technology include the following:

Retail: RFID tagging of textile products from manufacture to point of sale;
Medicine: Vital signs monitoring, body chemistry monitoring, stroke rehabilitation,
pressure measurement in compression garments, RFID tagging (numerous
applications from stock control to use in care of those with dementia);
Military: Vital signs monitoring, performance monitoring, physical condition, position
and orientation monitoring, radiation monitoring, monitoring of harmful gasses, RFID
tagging (numerous applications), wearable communications devices, camouflage,
2 meta-material devices for microwave cloaking, smart clothing with response to the
environment;

Sports: Performance monitoring;
Architecture: Stress and strain measurement in textile roofs, ropes and textile
composites. Lighting screens, flexible display screens.
Aerospace: Stress, strain and temperature measurement in textile composites;
Personal Electronics: Wearable computers, wearable communications devices,
electronics for social interactions.
After browsing the promotional website, the viewer should:
a) Have been exposed to the ‘ATRG’– and begin to have an understanding of what
the group has already achieved.
b) Have a clear sense that future developments and products are feasible and likely
as a result of the group’s research.
c) Be left with the lasting impression of the ATRG and it’s Facebook, Twitter and
website details.
d) Be in a strong position to remember the tag line you have created for the group.
It is important that the senses and emotions are triggered through browsing the
website – we want to create the perception of a fusion between high quality research
and cutting edge design and a sense through the work that has already been
achieved that that this innovation will continue.

WHAT IS THE CONCEPT OF THE WEBSITE?
We want to create a contemporary, classy, stylish yet speculative and intriguing
website that highlights the uniqueness of the ATRG, what has already been achieved
and products that might derive as a result of the research conducted by the group.
We also want to leave a lasting impression of creativity, innovative research,
innovative design that should become synonymous with the ATRG brand. This
website is not an archiving exercise. It should be more than simply ‘listing what we
have done’.

The possibilities of future and contemporary products or future uses that might be
born from the research undertaken are numerous. This job of the website is to
convey that narrative through creating a powerful narrative of what has already been
achieved. The website should captivate the viewer through the use of powerful,
distinctive storytelling. You should also create a tagline for the ATRG.

FURTHER DETAIL ABOUT THE WEBSITE
This website should stimulate the senses and incite curiosity and intrigue about the
ATRG. It should not be predictable – it must engage with the viewer throughout creating
the sense of unpredictability. They should feel excited and feel that the ATRG can
make that things happen.
We are looking to drive home a short, sharp, impactful message that sticks in the
memory.

TARGET AUDIENCE
You should be able demonstrate research undertaken on the specifically targeted audience for your website. The sectors outlined above should provide you with some guidance, for instance if you are interested in Medicine then your website might be aimed at Doctors and you might focus your website on the developments of the ATRG in this area. The most important element is that your website should speak to
your target audience in their language.
